Rich Yellow Butter Cake

4 tbl. unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1-1/2 cups sugar
6 large egg yolks, at room temperature
1 tbl. pure vanilla extract
3 cups cake flour, sifted
1 tbl. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup half-and-half

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter and flour two 9 inch round cake pans.
Put the butter, vegetable oil, and sugar in a bowl and cream until smooth, 4-5 minutes, using the electric mixer on medium speed. Add the egg yolks, 2 at a time, beating for 20 seconds after each addition. Scrape down the bowl.Beat in the vanilla until combined. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in thirds, alternating with the half and half. Beat for 45 seconds after each addition, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until cake tester inserted into cake comes out clean.
